Rolling With Honor: The Inspiring Journey of Scotty – Presley Healthcare’s Mobile Medical Clinic

Legacy on wheels, delivering care and honoring a hero.

In the world of healthcare, every vehicle has a story, but few are as moving as that of Unit 106, affectionately known as Scotty. From its beginnings as an ambulance in South Carolina to its current role as a lifeline in rural Tennessee, Scotty embodies courage, resilience, and community spirit.

In October 2008, Aiken Rescue in Aiken, South Carolina, expanded its fleet with three ambulances, two 1997 Freightliner/E-One models and a 1996 Freightliner/MedicMaster. While “Big Red” (Unit 104) and “Deuce” (Unit 105) quickly received their names, Unit 106 quietly went to work, an unsung hero among its siblings.

But on December 21, 2011, everything changed. On that tragic night, Aiken Department of Public Safety Officer Scott “Scotty” Richardson lost his life in the line of duty, and Unit 106 was the ambulance that raced to his aid. From that day forward, 106 was christened “Scotty” to honor Richardson’s sacrifice, forever tying the vehicle’s identity to bravery and service.

Scotty’s journey has been far from smooth. In 2013, while transporting a patient, the unit was struck by a drunk driver. Though the crew survived with minor injuries, Scotty was totaled. Yet, the story didn’t end there. Determined to preserve its legacy, Aiken Rescue rebuilt the MedicMaster box on a 2014 Kenworth chassis, breathing new life into the beloved ambulance.

Scotty quickly became the favorite among Aiken Rescue members, a rolling tribute to Officer Richardson and a symbol of unwavering commitment.

In 2020, Scotty embarked on a new chapter. Purchased by Cumberland River Hospital in Celina, Tennessee, a subsidiary of Rural Hospitals and Clinics of America, LLC, and Presley Healthcare, LLC, the vehicle transitioned from emergency response to patient transport. Though the hospital closed its doors later that year, Scotty wasn’t destined for retirement.

Fast-forward to 2025: Presley Healthcare recognized the unit’s ongoing value and repurposed Scotty as a Mobile Medical Clinic. Today, Scotty travels from clinic to clinic, serving 14 facilities across 8 counties in the Presley Healthcare Family Brands network. The legacy of Officer Richardson lives on, as the name “Scotty” is proudly displayed, a daily reminder of the vehicle’s roots.

Scotty’s journey is more than a story about an ambulance. It’s a testament to how legacy, compassion, and innovation can unite to serve those most in need. At every stop, Scotty delivers not just medical care, but a message: heroes live on in the lives they touch.
